Project

Needhams Point Holdings Limited
Barbados Hilton Site Remediation

Background

Hilton Hotels were seeking to demolish and rebuild a new hotel in their existing site at Needham's Point. The site was found to be contaminated with petroleum contaminants from both the adjacent former refinery site as well as fuel leakage from holding tanks on the Hilton site.

The Barbados Government uses Fiton Environment Remediation to remediate its toughest spills.
Objective

To reduce Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) to less than 5000 parts per million (ppm), from concentrations of 700,000 ppm and greater.

Results

The Fiton Biocatalysis process achieved the remediation objective. The Ministry of Physical Development and Environment (Energy Division) wrote the following after completion of the project, “the Fiton biocatalysis process achieved a level of cleanup that the Ministry did not believe possible and as a result, the Ministry unconditionally endorses the process for future use in cleaning up other areas of contamination on the Island of Barbados.”
